A Little Jar of Inspiration…

Apple Butter

Welcome to my first-ever blog post! (Finally, geez…) After a few years of poking and prodding by friends and family, and several weeks of building my own site, brainstorming posts, and then working some more on my site (What can I say? I am a bit fussy about getting things just right…) – I am finally going live!

As I was agonizing over what my first “real” post should be about, I received a package in the mail. Distraction! If you know me well, you know that I love getting mail. Non-junk mail that is. My husband and I joke-fight everyday about who is going to go to the mailbox to get it. Usually, I let him win – I think he likes mail more than I do!

Anyway, when Zak walked in with a box that had my name on it, I was over the moon! I opened it and found one of my absolute favorite things in the world – apple butter. Not just any apple butter, but my mom’s homemade apple butter – straight from the source! That little piece of home brought tears to my eyes as I could almost smell the apple spice scent filing the house while it cooked.

It suddenly dawned on me – at it’s root, apple butter is my inspiration. Ok, maybe not the apple butter per se… Really, it’s the mastermind behind the apple butter – my mom, Suzanne. She isn’t just the inspiration for MacSuzie, or for the apple butter recipe post I’ll write at some point, but she is an important part of who I became and why I love cooking, baking, crafting, etc. She is the original MacSuzie, for sure! My mom made our house a home filled with laughter, family, a little hard work and lots of really good food. On top of that, she showed me how sharing things from the heart – whether from our hands, the kitchen or our gardens – makes people happy and let’s them know how much we love them. To me, that’s what it’s really all about. I don’t think cooking would be nearly as much fun if I didn’t have someone I love to share my meals with, or send treats to back home. Sewing and crafting would be boring if I only ever made things for myself. And the decor that fills my house isn’t just to look at, it’s a way for for my guests to get to know me and to come in and be a part of my family.

So come on in to MacSuzie, and have a look around. I hope you enjoy :)

P.S. For more info on the inspiration behind MacSuzie and where the name came from, please visit my bio page.

P.P.S. I’m sorry if the photo was a tease – I PROMISE I will make some apple butter and post the recipe ASAP!

Let me know what you think!
