Merry Grinchmas! + Hallmark Keepsake Ornament GIVEAWAY

While my husband doesn’t ACTIVELY try to ruin Christmas like the Grinch did, it’s no secret that I am way more into the spirit than he is. At least, that’s the way it was in the beginning. Having been together for 11 Christmases now, he seems to be changing his tune, hahaha! Even if he wasn’t into everything from the start, I know he enjoys our traditions, including our yearly ornament exchange.

However, it wasn’t until our first Christmas living together that I started the Grinch ornament tradition. As I blared the Christmas music, tore into boxes of decorations like a fiend, and declared rather fiercely that I was serious about cutting down our own tree in the freezing Indiana temperature, I could see the green start to wash over his face and his eyebrows start to curl… The grumbling and muttering ensued for the rest of the season. My very own Grinchy Claus!

In true Grinch fashion, over the years we’ve been together I can see that his Christmas heart has grown a few sizes, too. I catch him humming Christmas tunes long before the calendar deems it acceptable, he can quote my favorite Christmas movies almost as well as I can (I don’t even have to beg to play them anymore!), and his face lights up as we stand underneath the huge tree downtown.

This year, in honor of my beloved Grinchy Claus, I decided to decorate one of my two trees (yes, two) in Grinchy style, and trick out the rest of the room with a few Grinchy touches as well.

To start, I used some Grinchy green fabric around the windows (clearance table runners for $2!!!) and some wacky colored tinsel garland swags.

I added some fun floral picks to colorful vases I already owned (yay for free things!).

To add a little fun at my desk (since this tree is in our office room), I swapped out my pencil cup for cute little Cindy Lou I bought last year at Barnes & Noble’s after Christmas sale.

Of course, we have to have the Grinch himself, along with his trusty pal, Max!

And I couldn’t resist a silly bent Grinch tree…

For the real Grinch tree, I modeled it after the plain and almost child-like decorations of the Whoville Christmas trees from the original movie/book.

I used the star I made for our first Christmas tree together as the topper :)

Given the fact that I am on a strict budget this year, I made most of the rest of the decorations out of cardstock I already had on hand.

A paper chain just like I made as a kid and some fun colorful shapes were just the ticket!

I finished it out with a few ornaments from our collection that fit the theme, and of course, his Grinch ornaments.

I try to go with just red and white; like candy canes and Santa Claus, but that Grinch tree is too cute!!

  2. I knew I liked you, and not just cuz you’re from Indiana ;) That is an awesome theme!!

    • Mac Suzie Mac Suzie says:

Hahaha, thank you! My office is crazy colorful and I thought Grinch/Whoville
would be perfect :) I have some MAJOR ideas for next year – this year I
am out of time and budget, LOL!

  3. Kathy says:

I don’t have any themes. We just put up all Christmas decorations that we can. The more we have the better!

  4. The girls have decorated their room like WhoVille this year. My youngest LOVES The Grinch!

  5. Carrie Manago says:

I had a tradition for many years of giving Uncle Jimmy an Opus ornament. I believe there are a bakers dozen of them (or so) at this point. My tradition has been interrupted because they no longer make Opus ornaments, but he looks for each and every one of them on our tree, along with the ornaments his mother gave him from childhood. Your Grinch theme is just adorable!

    • MacSuzie says:

Part of what I LOVE about decorating our tree is recalling when and from whom I received each ornament – I guess he and I are alike!

  6. Jenni says:

We sort of do different color schemes each year. I think this year there will be a lot of GOLD! I’m feeling sparkly this season!

  7. Kelly Moran says:

Our tree is full of ornaments that tell a story about our family – our trips, special occasions, our favorite things – and LOTS of Hallmark ornaments!

  8. I love this post! You did such a great job — so festive and bright! We do choose a different holiday color theme each year, but this year we are just going with sparkly and bright :)

  11. I don’t have a theme – my ornaments are mostly Hallmark or handmade. My other decor is very traditional.

  12. amy guillaume linderman says:

my theme is different every year…very random….whatever strikes me in the stores

  13. I mostly have snowmen and silver ornaments. I love the glass blown ornaments my SIL made and gave me.

  14. Amy Orvin says:

We don’t really have a theme, but we have a lot of ornaments that were handmade in school over the years and gave them as gifts to my mom. They have just been tradition and sentimental to the family.

  15. Sarah Jane says:

No theme here. Just whatever reminds me of childhood and good memories.

  16. i don’t have a theme, just whatever catches our eye! thank you!

I’m into a rustic theme these days. But oh my goodness, I LOVE your grinch decor, that bent tree!! We’re HUGE Grinch fans in this house.

  18. Fun fact…I love the grinch. Like I can quote the whole movie, have two pairs of Grinch pj’s and a shirt. I think when I have my own home I might decorate it just like you did. Love it!!!

Let me know what you think!
